THE RETURN ARC CONDITION ENGINE
Design Scope and Dynamics Specification
A handoff brief for continuing work in a fresh session
PURPOSE OF THIS DOCUMENT
This captures the full reasoning behind an interactive visualization built from the
treatise “Dynamics of Enlightenment.” It records not just what the engine does but why
each choice is faithful to the manuscript, so that work can resume without re-deriving
the decisions. Anyone picking this up should also have the manuscript (21 chapters plus
the 43 term glossary) on hand, since this brief assumes that ontology.
WHAT THE ENGINE IS
An abstract dynamics engine, not a metaphor and not a progression game. The user shapes
a field of conditions and watches the lawful tendency of Spirit’s return propagate
through the system. The user never moves Spirit and never sets surrender directly. The
engine shows relationships operating, closer to a dynamic systems map than a spiritual
questionnaire.
REJECTED DIRECTIONS AND WHY (do not revisit these)
1. A single “enlightenment slider” that drags a soul to bliss. Rejected because the book
states repeatedly that surrender is not chosen, not a technique, not authored by the
character. It arises through exhaustion, saturation, and the collapse of strategy
(Chapters 1, 2, 8, 13). A climber slider teaches the opposite of the ontology.
2. Metaphor engines (St. George and the dragon, rider and mount). Rejected because the
book has no such figures and the conditioning is not a creature beside Spirit. It is
the character Spirit is identified with and then disidentifies from. There is no enemy,
only identification and its loosening.
3. Collapsing everything to one driver. Rejected because two souls with identical worldly
saturation diverge completely depending on fear, attachment, or demand. The book’s
distinctions would be erased (Chapter 13).
THE CORE ARCHITECTURAL PRINCIPLE
Surrender is computed, never set. This is the single biggest fidelity gain in the design.
The user sets five seed conditions. Surrender emerges as their resultant. This mirrors the
book’s insistence that surrender arises and is never commanded.
THE FIVE SEED CONDITIONS (what the user controls)
Grouped by role, because the manuscript implies different functions rather than equal
weight.
Ripening pressures (move toward surrender):
1. Unrealized Fullness. Saturation of experience, the cup that overflows and prepares the
turn. This is the book’s term from Chapter 2 for worldly fullness that exhausts the
character. Note: this absorbed an earlier input called “Ripeness through Experience.”
They are the same force. Use the ontology’s word, Unrealized Fullness.
2. Curiosity without Demand. Inquiry that does not grasp, knowledge as mirror rather than
mask (Chapter 12).
Resistances (must be loosened for surrender to deepen):
3. Attachment to Knowledge. Concept held as identity, the spiritual ego that fills the
vessel with concepts instead of leaving it open (Chapters 8, 12, 13).
4. Fear of Dissolution. The character resisting its own disappearance (Chapter 13).
5. Desire for Outcome. Surrender made transactional, sought as achievement (Chapter 13).
Framing note: these three are labeled “resistances the field must loosen,” never
“negative.” The book treats attachment, fear, and desire as conditions not yet ripened,
not as evil. Chapter 12 calls knowledge something that “both reveals and conceals.” The
non-condemning tone is deliberate and must be preserved.
THE PROPAGATION CHAIN (the dynamics, in order)
This is the chain the user confirmed verbally, corrected across several rounds.
Unrealized Fullness (saturation)
feeds the ripening pressure
down to
Surrender (COMPUTED resultant: ripening pressures working against resistances; never set
directly; neither ripening nor low resistance alone is sufficient, the relationship is
nonlinear)
down to
Detachment (follows surrender; dragged down by residual attachment to knowledge;
Chapters 3 and 14)
down to
The Firmament (NOT a phase or a box in the chain; a permeability membrane whose opacity,
visibility, and permeability all change with detachment depth. Shallow detachment
leaves it opaque and scarcely sensed; deep detachment makes it transparent and clearly
crossed. Chapters 3 and 4. This was a specific correction: do not model the Firmament
as a stage.)
down to
Emptiness (graded loss of identity, gated by how transparent the Firmament became; some
lose identity partially, others fully; Chapters 5 and 15)
through
The Grace Gate (uncontrollable; readiness sets how WIDE the gate stands, but passage is
never guaranteed even at maximum readiness; grace is outside the chain; Chapters 8, 13)
down to
Divine Fullness (reception of Theonektar; needs cleared Emptiness, throttled by attachment,
and only as wide as grace readiness permits; never forced to full; Chapters 6 and 15.
Note: this is the SECOND sense of Fullness. The first sense, Unrealized Fullness, is the
worldly saturation seed above. The book uses Fullness in both senses and they must be
kept distinct.)
down to
Embodiment clarity (Ekphanesis, the conscious return; needs both Emptiness and Divine
Fullness; reduced by residual distortion; Chapters 7 and 16)
resting in
Present Mode of Return (a stabilization, NOT a terminal output)
RESIDUAL DISTORTION (a parallel readout)
What the resistances leave behind, minus what surrender clears. Represents the lawful
distortions of incomplete realization (Chapters 7, 8, 16: spiritual performance, mystical
elitism, incoherence). Not a moral failing, a measure of incomplete integration.
MODE OF RETURN (Chapter 17), shown as present stabilization, never an end
Determined by the ratio and integration of Emptiness to Divine Fullness:
– Impersonal Ontology: weighted toward Emptiness. Authentic but a partial emphasis,
silence without the full face of Fullness.
– Transcendental Theism: weighted toward Fullness. Authentic but a partial emphasis,
devotion without the full clearing.
– Embodied Non-Duality: both deeply and equally integrated. The fuller mode. Shown as the
fullest integration but explicitly as “a stabilization it rests in, not a closure.”
All three are labeled authentic, not rival, not false paths. The book ranks Embodied
Non-Duality as fullest (it integrates both), but the others are genuine, not wrong. This
ranking is a conscious doctrinal choice; someone from an impersonal or devotional tradition
may read it as the framework calling their path partial, which the book does in fact claim.
THE NO-FINALITY RULE (load-bearing, must never be violated)
Nothing in the engine may present a terminal end-state. Teleiosis is “never declared
irreversible.” The book ends with “there is no end.” The Mode of Return is therefore a
stabilization, not a finish. The system stays open or cyclical. No “you are now
enlightened” screen, ever.
SPIRIT RENDERING
Spirit is the constant witness. It is always present, even at the bottom in full
identification. It never changes shape, only luminosity and identification. Rendered as a
steady glowing core whose brightness tracks realization but which never disappears and
never becomes something else. “The witness stays.”
GOD RENDERING
God is off-axis, unreachable by the engine’s chain, shown as unowned light above the
frame that the column approaches but never reaches. Spirit never becomes God. The grace
threshold sits below the top and never touches it.
TELEIOSIS (currently NOT rendered, open decision)
The rare, God-willed cessation of Spirit’s distinct function. Deliberately left out of the
current build to avoid implying it is a reachable endpoint or the goal, which the book
explicitly denies (normative fulfillment is luminous distinct service, not dissolution).
OPEN QUESTION for future work: leave it out entirely as unrepresentable, or show it as a
faint, rarely-triggering possibility the user can never steer toward. This has not been
decided.
THE COEFFICIENTS ARE INFERENCES (important honesty flag)
The book gives directions and tendencies, never numbers. Every weight in the model (for
example: ripening = Unrealized Fullness times 0.62 plus Curiosity times 0.38; resistance =
attachment times 0.42 plus fear times 0.34 plus desire times 0.24; surrender = ripening
times (1 minus 0.8 times resistance)) is an interpretive choice, not doctrine. The
STRUCTURE and DIRECTIONS are faithful to the manuscript. The exact feel is tuned and needs
doctrinal verification. Test by pushing sliders to extremes: max all resistances and
surrender should collapse; max Unrealized Fullness alone with high attachment and the
Firmament should stay opaque, because saturation with attachment does not produce clean
detachment.
THE LAW OF EPISTEMIC RELATIVITY (a guard on the whole framework)
Chapter 4 builds in a safeguard: the law applies to itself first, and structural critiques
are exempt. This keeps the framework falsifiable rather than a tool for dismissing all
objection. The engine should therefore present itself as a map the book offers, not as
proven fact. Do not let the visualization imply “this is settled science.” The book frames
itself as clarity and description, not method (Chapter 21).
PRODUCTION STATUS (the real gap)
The current build is a single self-contained HTML file pasted into an Elementor Pro HTML
widget. This is a faithful logic PROTOTYPE. It is not a deployed application like a real
frontend on Vercel plus backend on Render. It renders once and sits there; it has no
backend, no persistence, no continuous runtime. Making it a true deployed app is a
separate, larger step. The fidelity work above transfers to any platform, so the logic was
settled first on purpose. Do not mistake the HTML prototype for the finished app.
ELEMENTOR NOTE (technical, not doctrinal)
Elementor sizes the HTML widget after scripts run, which can leave a canvas at zero width
and blank. Fix already applied: the resize function falls back to parent width or 600px,
re-measures at several timeouts up to 2 seconds, and the script is wrapped in an IIFE to
avoid collisions. If the canvas still appears blank in the Elementor editor preview, view
the published page; edit-preview sometimes suppresses canvas rendering.
WHAT IS SETTLED versus WHAT IS OPEN
Settled:
– No metaphor, no climber slider, no single driver.
– Five seed conditions split into ripening pressures and resistances.
– Surrender computed as resultant, never set.
– Firmament as permeability membrane keyed to detachment, not a phase.
– Grace as uncontrollable gate; completion never guaranteed.
– Three authentic modes, Embodied Non-Duality fullest.
– Ontology terms as node identity with plain-language glosses.
– No terminal state; open or cyclical.
– Spirit constant witness; God off-axis and unreachable.
Open:
– Whether and how to represent Teleiosis.
– Doctrinal verification of all coefficient values.
– Whether Mode of Return should publicly display the Embodied Non-Duality ranking or hold
it back to avoid reading as a verdict on other traditions.
– Whether to build this as a real deployed app (frontend plus backend) rather than an HTML
prototype, and on what platform.
– Stage 2 visual polish (sacred-object aesthetic, possible 3D), only after the logic is
verified.
HOW TO RESUME
A fresh session needs three inputs to continue without re-asking: the manuscript (21
chapters and glossary), the current HTML code, and this brief. With all three, the reasoning
is recoverable and work can continue at the open questions above rather than restarting the
debate that is already settled.
